The Bharathiar University

The Bharathiar University was established at Coimbatore by the Government of TamilNadu in February, 1982 under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act 1 of 1982). The Postgraduate Centre of the University of Madras, which was functioning in Coimbatore before 1982 formed the core of the Bharathiar University. In May, 1985 the University received the recognition from University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi for the purpose of grants.

The University named after the great national poet Subramanian Bharathiar is enshrined with the motto “Educate to Elevate”. In the University, every effort is harnessed to realize his dream of making educational institutions as temple of learning. It is the aim of the University to participate in the task of inculcating necessary Knowledge, Skills and Creative Attitudes and values among the youth of the country to contribute more effectively towards establishing an equitable social and economic and secular ideal of our nation. Industry Live Projects - Students undertaking Industry live projects get a better feasibility to learn more about the industry. Beside professional experience, live projects also provide industry or company certification which helps students to enter the industry with full confidence.

Foreign Tour (Optional) - The international study tour is an integral part of understanding global business from a professional and personal perspective which is not compulsory for students.

Laptop & Uniform - A laptop is the most basic and primary requirement for an MBA student. GIBS students will be facilitated with a high-end laptop. Uniforms are very important and foster traits which are very necessary for a person as an individual and an organization as a whole to thrive and prosper.

Internships - The summer internship is the perfect opportunity for students to apply the theoretical concepts learnt within the classrooms. It is an occasion for prospective managers to explore varied career opportunities in the areas of their interest.

Short Term Program on Logistics & Supply Chain Management - The curriculum is designed in a way that it provides thorough understanding of concepts and processes while the learning experience is enhanced through industry visits and workshops.

Project Management - It is an autonomous certification programme where students will learn the skills necessary to manage a project from initiation through completion.

Foreign Languages - Learning foreign languages like German, French, Spanish, etc., gives students an edge. Learning a foreign language gives students an opportunity to appear for international Placements.

Industrial Visits - Student will be aware about how various activities related to marketing, financing and human resource are carried out in company and will make them industry ready. GIBS organizes frequent industrial visits for industrial exposure.

The value Added programmes is designed to make the students business-ready and capable of responding to complex business requirements that arise in a changing global business environment with the industry requirements. Throughout the course of study, emphasis is placed on skill development, team-work, inclusivity principles and value-based management creating "Business Ready Managers". CES Teaching Method - (Continuous Evaluation System)

Innovative program radically alters the teaching process to the benefit of the students. Teaching and evaluation is a continuous and convenient exercise. 75% weight age is assigned to continuous evaluation while 25% weight age is assigned to external semester evaluation in each major course. The academic progress of students registered under different programs is evaluated continuously through a series of periodic evaluation comprising the Theory & Practical courses.

    Project management is a methodical approach to planning and guiding project processes from start to finish. According to the Project Management Institute, the processes are guided through five stages: initiation, planning, executing, controlling, and closing.     Six Sigma

    Six Sigma is a business statistical strategy, which is use to identifying defects and removing them from the process of products to improve quality. A defect is defined as any process output that does not meet customer specifications. Statistical measure to objectively evaluate processes and the history of Six Sigma is, it was founded in 1970s, by Mr. Bill Smith, “Father of Six Sigma”.

    Six Sigma Definitions: It is a management philosophy focused on business process improvements to:

    • Eliminate waste, rework, and mistakes
    • Increase customer satisfaction
    • Increase profitability and competitiveness

    Industry Live Projects

    For all students to gain real time experience, it is necessary that they go through hands-on training. This platform is provided by the skills that they acquire from the short projects that they do from Small Scale Industries. This is an excellent opportunity for students to have close interaction with the industry-experts who frequently give them live projects to work on. On completion of their projects, the students are required to make presentation of their reports before the industry representatives, faculty members and students.

    Short projects are allotted in all of the functional areas of management. The student is expected to study and understand how things work in real time scenario. Students are encouraged to do 3-4 industrial live projects apart from Summer Internship and Final Semester Project to get maximum Industrial Exposure.

    While working on live and time-bound projects, they gain actual experience of the corporate culture. The process helps them develop professional attitude, sense of responsibility, analytical ability and leadership qualities. It also helps the industry in assessing the students’ performance and potential, on the basis of which pre-placement offers are often made.

    Internships & Industrial Visits

    As part of the curriculum, each student takes up live projects with a company for a period of 8-10 weeks, after the completion of the first year. The summer internship is the perfect opportunity for students to apply the theoretical concepts learnt within the classrooms. It is an occasion for prospective managers to explore varied career opportunities in the areas of their interest. They get a better grasp of the important inter-linkages among different functions and develop a realistic managerial perspective on corporate workings.

    Industrial visits represent important activities in any Business School that contribute to the achievement of various essential learning outcomes and programme objectives. Frequent Industrial Visits are organized in GIBS so that student will be aware about how various activities related to marketing, financing and human resource are carried out in company and this exposure will make them industry ready.

    Guest lectures are an integral part of the pedagogy of GIBS.     GIBS Business School has launched their own Innovation Centre on 14th September at residential campus.     GIBS Business School Conducts Authentic Leadership Programme by Heartfulness Institute. This Institute engages the students in activities that further the practice of Heartfulness Inner Journey and related lifestyle choices, including education, wellness, research, and training, as practiced by adherents to the principles.
